In January one of our long-term partners, not-for-profit organisation Gift of Bread, delivered 480 packs of water, snacks, fresh bread and other provisions to the firefighters in Glen Alice, NSW.
On the way home they received the following SMS from the firefighters:
“Words are not enough to let you know how much we appreciate all you lovely people do for the community. It was lovely meeting you all. Take care.”
The NSW Rural Fire Service is the world’s largest volunteer-based fire service. Volunteers fulfil the incident response role of the NSW RFS with over 2,000 rural fire brigades and more than 73,000 volunteer members protecting rural areas, villages, small towns and some outer urban fringes across the State.
The Glen Alice RFS is staffed entirely by volunteers, who have been working day and night for nearly two months to battle huge blazes in the area. These men and women continue to give up their time and risk their lives to protect neighbours and their property.
